چکیده

In 1943 Bruger (1) proposed a fractional cephalin-cholesterol flocculation test to be used as an index of increasing or decreasing hepatic dysfunction. This modified test consisted in the use of increasing dilutions of serum with saline, noting the flocculation according to the procedure originally described by Hanger. The data presented in support of the modified test do show that, when it is repeated at various intervals, changes occur which can be interpreted as indicative of increasing or decreasing function. Because of differences in the dilutions used by Bruger (1: 10 serum dilution in the first tube), Makari (2) found that false positive reactions occurred which resulted in minor alterations of the curves. He devised a serial dilution technique in which the amount of serum added to the first tube was identical to that used in the original one-tube Hanger method. In a recent study in this laboratory of liver function tests in leprosy (5), it was found that the cephalin-cholesterol test of Hanger was positive in 68.4 per cent of the 152 cases studied. It was thought that the serial dilutions of sera with saline in conjunction with the cephalin-cholesterol method might be of interest.

The thymol turbidity and cephalin-cholesterol tests, euglobulin, albumin-globulin ratio and serology in leprosy.

During the course of experimental work on leprous patients in Hawaii, Dr. Eric Fennel observed a relationship between the thymol turbidity and cephalin-ehoiesteroi tests, the albumin: globulin ratio and the degree of skin involvement in the cases he studied. He made observations on 25 cases and included some of his fi ndings in a report on the thymol turbidity test (4), but he felt that they we...

Improved Quantitation of Cephalin-cholesterol Flocculation Test.

A rapid turbidimetric method for the determination of cephalin-cholesterol flocculation is described. Greater specificity and photometric sensitivity have been achieved along with adequate precision. The test is standardized with the conventionalbarium sulfate turbidity standards usedfor other laboratory procedures. Definition of results in turbidity units is proposed, and photometric standardi...

A Rapid Modification of the Cephalin Cholesterol Flocculation Test.

‘THE LENGTHY INCUBATION PERIOD and the subjective interpretation of degree of flocculation ai’e undesirable characteristics of the Hanger cephalin cholesterol flocculatiomi test (1). Inadequate sensitivity has been noted in some of these technics as well as inter...

Mechanism and Significance of the Thymol Turbidity Test for Liver Disease.

An increase in the amounts of the globulin components of the serum has long been recognized in advanced states of liver disease (1, 2, 3), although the significance of the alteration has never been defined. It has been the basis of the Takata-Ara, Weltmann and the formol-gel reactions which have been used for many years in the diagnosis of liver disease. The nonspecific nature of these tests is...

Significance of Cephalin-cholesterol Flocculation Test

The effect of malarial fever on hepatic physiology has recently been investigated. It has been found (1) that considerable bromsulphthalein retention, a marked reduction in cholesterol and cholesterol esters, a moderate fall in phospholipids, diminished hippuric acid excretion and a strongly positive cephalin-cholesterol flocculation reaction resulted when malaria was induced in 9 patients by i...
